Panchakarma is a method of cleansing the body of unwanted wastes. It is unique in its sense as it includes preventive and curative action for various diseases and works best with utilizing the benefits of medicated oils and removing the toxins from our body. Before starting the procedure patient is prepared to receive the full benefits of treatment. This preparatory treatment is called Poorva karma consisting of two main process – Snehan (oleation) and Swedan (fomentation). Panchakarma means 5 karmas or process: –

Vamanam (therapeutic emesis) Here patient is given oil inside and outside oil massage and fermentation for few days. Once the toxins are melted they are given emetic medicines. This treatment is mainly for kapha dominated conditions like asthma, allergy, weight gain and hyperacidityVirechanam (purgation) Here disposal of toxins happens from clearing of bowels. Patient is given a natural purgative that clears up the toxins and is fundamentally used for pitta dominated conditions such as jaundice, colitis, celiac infection.Raktamoksham treatment ensures cleaning the blood and is mainly indicated for the treatment of skin infections such as psoriasis, dermatitis, and local lesions.

Nasyam is an extremely effective treatment for clearing the head area. Nasal drops are given after a delicate head and shoulder massage. It helps in soothing different types of cerebral pains, headache, hair issue, sleep disorder, neurological disorders, sinusitis, chronic rhinitis and other respiratory ailments.

Vasti (Therapeutic decoction enema) Introducing medicated substances through enema is an exceptional art practiced in Ayurveda. Decoctions, oil, ghee, milk are managed into rectum and has incredible positive effects on vata domain the related conditions like arthritis, piles and constipation.After undergoing the main treatment, the internal energy of the body decreased due to the procedure can be re built. Patients are given liquids first followed by semisolids before finally receiving a normal diet. The duration of the panchakarma therapy varies according to the bodily needs of the patient and the choice of the physician. Generally it ranges from 7 days to a maximum of 60 days.

Diet and regimen during and after the treatment should be followed as per the guidance of the physician.
