Refractive

  • Astigmatism is a refractive defect that causes images to focus on the retina in a distorted way, affecting near and far vision.
  • Hyperopia is a refractive defect or error in visual focusing. Images are focused behind the retina so vision becomes blurred, especially up close.
  • Myopia is a refractive defect or error in visual focusing. Images are focused in front of the retina and not on it, making long distance vision difficult.
  • Presbyopia is a refractive error caused by loss of elasticity in the crystalline lens, the natural lens of the eye that enables it to focus on images at different distances. This decreased capacity for accommodation causes difficulties in seeing objects up close with clarity.

Cataract

Cataracts are cloudy patches in the lens (the transparent structure at the front of the eye) which can make vision blurred or misty and can develop in one or both eyes Over time, the cloudy patches can become bigger and more of them can develop. As less light is able to pass through the lens, a person's vision is likely to become blurry or cloudy. The cloudier the lens becomes, the more a person's sight is affected.
In younger patients, cataracts may be caused by diabetes, eye injuries or other conditions of the eye, such as uveitis. In older patients, age-related changes in the lens can lead to cataracts. Both genetic and environmental factors may play a part.
In most cases, a cataract will continue to develop and surgery to remove the cataract is the only way to restore vision.

  • RCM Eye hospital offer high quality cataract surgeries to patients which varies from small incision to micro incision surgeries with the support of sophisticated latest machines.
  • We use various types of intraocular lens based on the need and affordability of patients. Multifocal IOLs always provide a very comfortable and high quality life to everyone and offer freedom from spectacles. These IOLs are designed to provide both distance and near focus at the same time. Monofocal IOLs are the most common types of lens used with cataract surgery that has only one focusing distance. Surgeries with Monofocal IOLS are available at RCM Eye hospital for reasonable rates.
  • All our surgeries are free from injections, patches, hospitalization and pain.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a term that describes a group of eye conditions that affect vision. Glaucoma often affects both eyes, usually in varying degrees. One eye may develop glaucoma quicker than the other.
Glaucoma occurs when the drainage tubes (trabecular meshwork) within the eye become slightly blocked. This prevents eye fluid (aqueous humour) from draining properly.
When the fluid cannot drain properly, pressure builds up. This is called intraocular pressure. This can damage the optic nerve (which connects the eye to the brain) and the nerve fibres from the retina (the light-sensitive nerve tissue that lines the back of the eye).
Any damage to your vision caused by glaucoma cannot be repaired. This is why it is so important to diagnose glaucoma early so it can be treated and further damage can be prevented.

  • RCM Eye Hospital runs clinic for diagnosing and treating Glaucoma.

Pediatric Ophthalmology

Paediatric ophthalmology is a subspecialty of ophthalmology that concentrates on treating the various eye problems affecting children. It is essential to address and rectify the issues in newborns as soon as possible. If not treated within the first six months of the child’s birth, there’s a good possibility that the child gets visually impaired for the rest of his/her life.

Ocular Adnexal surgeries

Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is a specialized area of ophthalmology that deals with the management of deformities and abnormalities of the eyelids, lacrimal system and the orbit. An ophthalmoplastic surgeon is able to identify and correct abnormalities of the ocular adnexae such as ectropion, lid retraction, conjunctival scarring with severe entropion, that can cause secondary ocular surface disorders; manage patients with watering eye, and when needed intervene with a dacryocystorhinostomy by external or endonasal approach.
